Day 4 – Favorite Female Anime Character Ever

While I was able to choose a male character I haven’t mentioned in this blog before, this time, I couldn’t help but choose someone who belongs to a series I’ve already talked about in some posts.

Princess Yona (Akatsuki no Yona)

Princess Yona is the protagonist of the series written and illustrated by Kusanagi Mizuho. When I was reading Akagami no Shirayukihime (the anime hasn’t been announced then), some fans recommended Akatsuki no Yona because of how strong the female main character who has red hair like Shirayuki is. Naturally, I got curious and eventually read and fell in love with it. Of course, I watched the anime, too!

Initially, I was baffled because of how Yona is at the start. She is spoiled and childish. I thought, where is that strong girl everyone is so proud about? Somehow, I felt betrayed. But I continued on with the series and realized that it was only the beginning.

At the age of 16, Yona’s world turned upside down. She lost a lot in just one night. She got depressed but she was able to overcome it. Mingling with the common people, she learned how to live a humble life. She sought the ability to protect herself and gained it. She even grew to protect others, too, not just herself. Because of her sincerity, strong will and kind heart, she is able to win over the hearts of the Four Dragons and of other people. I love how she can be badass one time and an adorably shy girl the next. It is perfectly understandable why Hak, Yoon, and the Four Dragons love her so much. And actually, how can one not love her?

Oh, I hope we’ll get a S2 someday. Anyhow, the other characters I considered to write here are: Shirayuki (Akagami no Shirayukihime), Mogami Kyoko (Skip Beat!), Momokan (Ookiku Furikabutte), and Mizunashi Akari (Aria series).
