Day 17 – Favorite Supporting Male Anime Character
I love a lot of supporting characters so it’s really painful that I can’t put just all of them for this one.
Tsukishima Kei (Haikyuu!!)
Presenting this tall, salty guy. Honestly, when he first appeared, I didn’t really think that he would be someone who I’d love so much. He irritated me at his first appearance. After their 3-on-3, though, he slowly crawled into my heart with his amusing scenes caused by his straightforward, sharp remarks. He surprised me with his mingling with his teammates as they eat meat buns, though he also goes home early. Even him bearing with Kageyama and Hinata as he teach them is surprising, too. The cutest thing about him is his interest with dinosaurs (he’s got a figure in his room!).
I love it when he interacts with Kuroo, Bokuto, and Akaashi! They’re all just so adorable especially when Kuroo teases Tsukki. Of course, Tsukki’s roundabout way of cheering for Yamaguchi is amusing, too.
His backstory as to why he doesn’t want to be attached because it’s “just a club” (along with the developments that happened) sealed his spot on my list of favorite characters! He just didn’t want to get hurt like his brother did. He still chose to continue playing volleyball, though, so I think in the first place, deep in his heart, he really loves the sport. In his own way, he thinks about what he should do in order to win. In the end, he’s a volleyball idiot like the rest of them.
When “that moment” when he got hooked on volleyball came, it’s just so touching that I cried. The build up to that moment is well done. You get a feeling that there’s something that will he will do, but that didn’t stop me from being so amazed when it finally happened. Even now where the manga is, he continues to amaze me and I’m looking forward to how he will improve in the future!
By the way, I feel bad putting just him only here, so here are the other supporting characters I love in the series aside from Tsukki.
- Fukurodani
- Nekoma
- Aoba Johsai
- Shiratorizawa
I love them all so much it hurts, you know? As I see it, Furudate-sensei is good at fleshing out his characters. I love that even if the games against certain schools are finally over, some or all of the characters still appear in the series.

Here are our MCs and the rest of the team. They’re all so loveable!
I like Date Tech, too, especially Aone, Futakuchi, Koganegawa, and Sakunami. Daishou of Nohebi grew on me because of Mika and I’m enjoying to read about Inarizaki. But this is about the anime and, more importantly, about Tsukki so I should really stop now.
Tsukishima ended up being one of my favourite characters when I watched this last year. I loved his sarcasm early on but found him a bit too standoffish. But as you said, he has some excellent back story and development and in season 3 he really just won me over. Thanks for sharing this.

Hahaha! There’s just a lot of reasons to love it! It’s actually really painful to choose only one, so I included almost everyone’s pictures. They’re all so loveable! 😀

Tsukki’s pretty cool!! His backstory was pretty cool but even without that he came of as a pretty awesome character with the way he teased Kageyama. Honestly, it’s difficult to choose a character from haikyuu for this one because everyone’s just awesome!! :’)

Agree! His interactions with Kageyama are some of the most amusing ones. Even their first encounter, which was the reason I got irritated with him at first, is amusing to me now that I know what kind of person he is. Yes! They”re all so loveable! ❤
Thanks for dropping by! 🙂
