Mei’s List | A Couple of Loveable Pairings

February is finally drawing to a close. It feels so fast, what with it being only 28 days! To celebrate, I decided to compile a non-exhaustive list of anime/manga series with some of my beloved pairings. (Most of these are officially canon!) These are some of the sweetest pairs I’ve known ever since watching/reading anime/manga.

Akagami no Shirayukihime

Zen x Shirayuki

This is one of the healthiest romantic relationships I know from the Animanga Land. I might be repeating what I said somewhere in one of my posts or in one of my comments elsewhere, but I truly love how both of them are perfectly capable on their own. Zen, even with his tendencies to sneak out of his job, still manages to complete them and to do them well. Shirayuki is also a determined and competent herbalist. I love how they pursue the way for them to be together since they are from two different social statuses and in that process, both are growing in their knowledge (Shirayuki of medicine while Zen of political matters) and love. They don’t have those “I can’t live without you”’s, so it’s also a plus for me.

Akatsuki no Yona

Hak x Yona

These two have known each other from childhood and childhood love stories are always lovely to me. Hak, unfortunately, had been experiencing a one-sided love for so long, as Yona was quite expressive with her love for Soo-won. Nevertheless, it didn’t stop Hak from protecting and loving the princess. He still chose to be by her side. On the other hand, for Yona, Hak is an important person whose existence has a big impact on her. Right now, I can only hope for another anime season so that those who don’t read the manga may also know about the progress of their relationship.

Kimi ni Todoke

Kazehaya Shouta x Kuronuma Sawako

These two are just so adorable! They started as good friends who respected each other and then they eventually developed feelings for each other. It was fun to watch that transition, especially because both of them are so pure!

Sanada Ryu x Yoshida Chizuru

These two are childhood friends, too. They may have different personalities, with Chizu being more active and expressive while Ryu being a reserved and patient guy, but they complement each other. They understand each other well because of the deep friendship they got from childhood. Chizu and Ryu are always ready to comfort the other when needed. It was such a delight to see more of their sweet moments in the manga!

Lovely Complex

Otani Atsushi x Koizumi Risa

This pair of Umibozu fans is amusing to watch! They may have a huge height difference, but they aren’t all together different from other sweet couples out there. They don’t really started in good terms because the two of them are made fun of because of their heights, but they eventually became friends who at times bicker and at times get along with each other. I enjoy it best when they are both goofing around. They enjoy doing a lot of things together and it’s fun to watch them being plainly happy.

Detective Conan

Takagi Wataru x Sato Miwako

Well, I love Ran-Shinichi and Kazuha-Heiji and all the other couples in DC-verse, but this one tops them all for me. I just enjoy seeing their interactions and I love it whenever the Detective Boys tease these two. I remember that when I decided to watch all of DC, when I knew about the Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story series, I immediately looked for them and watched them one after another just to see the progress of their love story. I love how Takagi is able to evoke cute expressions from the usually tough Sato.

Spice and Wolf

Kraft Lawrence x Holo

This duo has one of the most interesting interactions I’ve seen. I especially enjoyed watching them because I felt like I was slapped by a big Economics book while watching the series. I think I could go on watching their conversations. Holo is wise as she’s a wolf, but Lawrence doesn’t lose to her as he’s able to quickly pick up on her implications. They got to experience various challenges, but their trust for each other are quickly established early on.

Noragami

Yato x Hiyori Iki

Yato and Hiyori started with Hiyori asking for Yato to fix her situation, but they eventually became a valuable existence to one another. They got to the point that they’re willing to risk their lives just to save the other. Their interactions are usually fun to watch, too, especially with Yato being the dork that he is.

Fullmetal Alchemist

Edward Elric x Winry Rockbell

These two have been through a lot of difficulties in life and got stronger because of those. They are both strong on their own, too! As they grew up together, they understand, trust, and care deeply for one another. Even if Winry frequently scolds Ed for easily breaking his automail, she still spends a lot of time to fix it well. He does his best just to protect her, too, though she is also willing to risk being in danger just to help him when the situation demands for it. It is a joy to see the gradual development of friendship to romance as they grew up (figuratively and literally)!

Horimiya

Miyamura Izumi x Hori Kyouko

I adore this couple so much! Miyamura and Hori are actually different from each other, though both of them are living differently when they’re outside school. Both are more than what they looked like in school. Then, they became friends. Hori has a huge impact on Miyamura’s life, too, as she opened a more vibrant life in school for him. Eventually, they developed feelings for each other. Now, they’re one of the most adorable and amusing couples there is! Hori is unreasonable at times, but Miyamura is an understanding guy who always manage to complement her. They are both valuable for each other.

Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii

Hirotaka Nifuji x Narumi Momose

Ah, this pair of otaku are also amusing and adorable! They are childhood friends and it was Narumi who influenced Hirotaka into loving games. They bond over games and watching shows. It’s cute that Narumi, who is a fujoshi, makes Hirotaka read BL manga series and he just goes along with it. They also have quite different personalities, but both are perfect for each other! I’m so excited to see the anime slated for next season!
