Mei’s List | Favorite Anime Moms

Mothers’ Day passed by but I wasn’t able to whip up some post quickly so here’s a late one for it. Mothers never cease to amaze me — at least most of them — because of how much hardships they bear just for their family. They’re strong and capable, willing to sacrifice a lot — even their life — just for their child. They deserve all the recognition and love they can get!

So now, I want to share my favorite mothers and mother figures in the various anime series that I watched.

Trisha Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Trisha raised Ed and Al with lots of care and love. She supported them in their pursuit of the knowledge about alchemy and gave them the attention to make up for the absence of their father. It’s obvious that she’s well-loved by the boys, too, as she’s also the reason why they got to see and know the truth about alchemy. She isn’t really shown much, but the times she is shown is enough to love and admire her as a mother and a wife. I don’t think Ed and Al would grow up loveable like that if she wasn’t able to raise them properly.

Midoriya Inko (Boku no Hero Academia)

Inko is Deku’s mother. His devastated state when they discovered that he was Quirkless made her agonize so much. She rejoiced so much after knowing that he has(got) a Quirk and is able to enter the prestigious U.A. Academy. However, that doesn’t mean that she stopped being worried. She frequently is a bundle of nerves especially when it comes to Deku’s safety, though she still chooses to allow him pursue his desire of becoming a hero. I’ve got to admit that there are times my mother frustrate me when she’s worrying so much about me, but by the end of it all, it’s just heartwarming to know that she cares.

Mothers of the Nishiura boys (Ookiku Furikabutte)

Ahh, these moms! I really love them all because they are just so supportive of their sons and the team! They watch their sons’ games, even those who aren’t that familiar with baseball, just to cheer for them. I find it cute how they chatter about different things in the midst of the games because it feels natural. And it’s also amazing how they get together/talk outside games, too.

Kudo Yukiko (Detective Conan)

Yukiko is Shinichi/Conan’s mother. She is a great actress and an expert in disguises. She supports Shinichi a lot and helps him especially whenever he is in a pinch. She is wise and brave and is willing to do everything to protect her family. Moreover, Yukiko roots for her son’s love life and has a lot of fun teasing him about it, too! I always enjoy watching the times she appear because Yukiko is such a fun and cool character.

Makunouchi Hiroko (Hajime no Ippo)

She is Ippo’s mother. Hiroko is widowed, so she is the one who mainly manages the family’s fishing business. She wakes up early to manage and carry heavy containers. She is seen usually with a smile. Though she doesn’t want to see her son being punched, she still supports Ippo because she knows how much boxing means to him. I also love how she’s so accommodating to her son’s friends. I especially loved the parts when Volg interacted with her, too! I think Hiroko’s one of those warmhearted moms reminiscent of typical mothers.

touko

Fujiwara Touko (Natsume Yuujinchou)

She is Natsume’s foster mother. She and her husband Shigeru voluntarily offered Natsume to live with them. She is caring and loving. I love how she (and Shigeru) assures Natsume that he belongs, that he is family. Knowing Natsume’s background, it’s so touching to know that she’s there to support and care for him.

Kouzuki Miyu (Daa! Daa! Daa!)

Miyu isn’t Ruu’s biological mother, but she’s definitely his mom on Earth. She may be clumsy and naïve most of the time, but she also deeply cares and loves Ruu, to the point that she’s willing to sacrifice her desire just to look after him. I love how she educates Ruu even at his young age, too, not tolerating his misdeeds just because he’s an alien baby.

BONUS!!!

Yoon (Akatsuki no Yona)

Well, technically, Yoon is a guy, but he’s certainly recognized by the group as their ‘mother’.

See? There are some more funny instances like this, too.

It’s all because Yoon is the one who cooks, sews their clothes, treats their wounds, handles their finances, and a whole lot more! He may not be physically strong to be able to fight head-to-head with enemies (he can make explosives, though), but his wit and good looks becomes handy at various perilous situations and he’s also willing to protect his friends as a mother protects her child! Yoon may be the youngest of their group, but he’s mature and dependable! He’s caring and so adorable! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!

And that’s all for this! I know there are a lot more awesome mothers in various anime series out there and I hope I’ll like them as much as I love these characters above. Anyway, how about you? Do you like any of these characters, too? Who are some other anime mothers that you like? I’d love to hear from you!

Also, thanks for reading!
